Anthropic agreed to a $35 billion computing contract with Lambda to secure large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure, according to a person familiar with the matter.12 The agreement provides the artificial intelligence laboratory with access to roughly 350 megawatts of specialized capacity anchored to Nvidia hardware.2

The transaction broadens the external cloud footprint supporting Anthropic while deepening the financial and technical ties linking the company to Nvidia.2 The Wall Street Journal first reported the transaction, and Reuters confirmed the agreement on August 31, 2026, citing a person familiar with the terms.2 Neither Anthropic, Lambda, Nvidia, nor facility developer Hut 8 issued public commentary on the contract.2

Power assets and the Texas site

The data center site in Nueces County, Texas, is being developed by Hut 8, an operator that previously focused on Bitcoin mining.2 Hut 8 has been directing its development pipeline toward artificial intelligence infrastructure, capitalizing on its existing electrical interconnections and real estate assets.2 Former cryptocurrency mining companies have increasingly emerged as critical infrastructure partners across the technology sector because they hold long-term access to scarce grid connections, substations, and energy delivery rights that can be converted to power high-density computing clusters.2

Under the multi-layered arrangement, Nvidia holds the lease on the Texas data-center site, while Lambda deploys the underlying Nvidia systems to run computing workloads for Claude models.2 The structure positions Nvidia simultaneously as a primary financial backer of Lambda, the holder of the facility lease, and the exclusive equipment vendor supplying the processors.2

Analysts cited by Barron's indicated that arrangements structured around supplier-held leases and specialized hosting providers can sustain demand for proprietary chips while managing direct financial exposure.2 Those analysts also pointed to questions regarding disclosure and transparency surrounding the capital relationships that connect specialized cloud providers with their primary chip suppliers.2

Expanding compute commitments

The commitment with Lambda follows a series of multi-billion-dollar infrastructure obligations completed by Anthropic over the course of 2026.2 The company reached a $45 billion, six-year contract with Nscale for 460 megawatts of capacity in West Virginia operating on Nvidia's Vera Rubin architecture.2 Anthropic also maintains a cloud computing agreement with Amazon valued at more than $100 billion over 10 years, which grants access to up to 5 gigawatts of capacity across Amazon Web Services infrastructure.2

The accelerated buildout matches a rapid rise in operational scale. By April 2026, Anthropic stated that its annualized revenue run rate had crossed $30 billion.2 To support that volume of demand, the company obtained initial computing allocations from Google and Broadcom before adding larger long-term arrangements with Amazon, Nscale, and independent cloud specialists such as Lambda.2

While the agreement adds Lambda to Anthropic's roster of specialized hosting vendors, the underlying deployments preserve the laboratory's reliance on Nvidia silicon.2 Reporting by Alexey Bondarev for Yellow.com highlighted that Anthropic has achieved supplier diversification at the cloud platform tier while maintaining concentrated dependence on Nvidia at the physical hardware layer.2
